Rafael's Blog: Nifty-Fifty

I have recently renewed my interest in using the 50mm lens. It's a really nice lens for portraits without breaking the bank. This is by far the cheapest lens that Canon has in its line ($80-$100 retail) but it is such a joy to use that I've taken hundreds of photos in just a few days of my favorite subject - Rafael using the nifty-fifty.

It is getting more difficult to take photos of Rafael without breaking a sweat (though average temps in the high 80s is not helping). He's at an age when sitting still for more than 5 seconds feels like eternity for him. These photos are of him in action while Angel and I follow him around like a dog's tail.

Let me start off with photos I took of him last week. He had just finished taking a shower thus the neatly-groomed hair c/o Gra'ma. When Angel arrived from work, she had a bag of groceries and Rafael quickly set his eye on the attractive Cottage cheese container. He approached each one of us asking to open it for him which of course we didn't want to as he would just make a mess of it. We pretended to try to open it but just couldn't - complete with facial expression. When we gave it back to him, he then tried to open it himself and imitated our facial expressions making for such hilarious but cute photos.

ok maybe this isn't so bad. let me try it myself.
