Rome Photos

As I mentioned in my previous post, Day 8th, Friday, Angel and I took the Eurostar to Rome from Florence. I must admit, going around Rome is quite intimidating but after spending a day there, it didn't seem so daunting after all. We're proud to say we survived our Roman adventure.

We got off the train around 11am then headed straight for the tourist info counter which wasn't so easy to find at the huge Rome Terminal. We grabbed a quick lunch then kicked off our adventure. First off we took the subway and got off on the 3rd stop to find the Fountain of Trevi. Every so often we would stop to check our map, camera bag in tow - with signs on our foreheads saying: "yes we're tourists. go ahead rob us now.". After 10 minutes of walking, reading, walking, following a tour group (there were tons of them by the way), we finally found the fountain.

Next stop, not far from Trevi was the Pantheon.

then the Piazza Navona. Photo below is the Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi (Fountain of the Four Rivers) sculpted by Bernini.

Though there were a few more significant sites to see near Piazza Navona, we decided to skip those and head straight to St. Peter's square since we were told that it closes early. It was a good 20 minute walk from Navona. In retrospect, taking the bus wouldn't have been too bad and would've given us more time to see the Coliseum. St. Peter's is as big and as regal as a church gets. Every inch seemed adorned with art and fine detail which makes you wonder how long it took to complete it and why the extravagance? It was almost past 4 pm already before we decided we've seen enough. We knew we had to be on our way back to Florence by 730 at the latest.

So it was time to figure out how to get to the Coliseum. We walked to the bus stop (10 minutes from St. Peter's square) and waited for 15 minutes for Bus No. 271 which was one of only 2 buses that passed by the Coliseum. I wanted to spend more time in the Coliseum as I was always fascinated by it and though I've been to Rome before, I haven't been to the Colosseo.

Right in front of the Coliseum is a subway station which made it easy for us to get to the Rome Termini quick to get the earliest trip back to Florence. By this time, it was almost 630 pm. Finally, when we got to the Terminal, we were able to purchase tickets for the 730 trip. We were home in Montecatini by 11pm. We were hoping Rafael would still be awake as we had terribly missed him but he was fast asleep. Benjie did a great job with him during the day.
